WORKSHOP ON PHARMACOVIGILANCE

Institute of Clinical Research (India), ICRI, India’s premier institution in Clinical Research studies, in association with World health organization WHO, held a two day workshop in Bangalore India on the 12 and 13th April, 2007 at National Institute of Advance Studies, IISC Auditorium.
This workshop & Conference had experts from Indian and International regulatory, industry and academia. Dr. Sten Olsson, Chief WHO programme Officer & manager External Affairs and and Dr. Ronald Meyboom, Medical Advisor, Uppsala Monitoring Committee (UMC), WHO conducted the workshop on Pharmacovigilance along with various other eminent speakers from the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry.
Professor S K Gupta highlighted the need for pharmacovigilance, the Indian Pharmacovigilance system, World Bank assistance and DCGI’s role in adverse frug reaction monitoring, Dr. Ronald Mayboom discussed the ABC of drug related problems and highlighted the need for setting up pharmacovigilance system. The importance of pharmacovigilance in clinical research was highlighted by Dr. Sten Olson. Dr. Moin Don from Dr. Reddy’s laboratory gave a presentation on the nedd for most marketing surveillance and Professor Urmila Thate emphasized the need for pharmacovigilance system for Herbal medicines in order to gain world wide recognition and to export of these medicines
